Rotary Drum Sifter: (Trommel Screener)

A Rotary Drum Sifter, commonly known as a Trommel Screen, is an industrial separation machine that uses a rotating perforated cylindrical drum to classify bulk materials, minerals, organic waste, or liquids by particle size.

Working Principle :

1. Feeding & Inclination: Raw material is fed into the elevated inlet end of the cylindrical drum. The drum is usually mounted at a slight downhill angle or equipped with an internal screw/auger to move material forward as it spins.

2. Tumbling & Separation: As the drum rotates at a controlled speed, internal lifter bars lift and drop the material. This continuous “shower” and tumbling action breaks up clumps and exposes particles evenly to the mesh openings.

3. Sizing Outlets:

   • Undersize (Fines): Particles smaller than the perforated screen mesh pass through the holes and drop into a discharge hopper or collection conveyor underneath.

   • Oversize: Material larger than the apertures continues travelling down the length of the drum and exits out the far discharge end.
